History of the Sabbath
The seventh day was consecrated by God as a Sabbath in the beginning of the earth (see Genesis 2:2–3). Since earliest times, the tradition of a sacred seventh day has been preserved among various peoples of the earth. God renewed a commandment concerning this day, saying, “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8). Keeping the Sabbath day is a way to enter into and renew your covenant with God
Keeping the Sabbath shows your commitment to God. It allows you to get closer to God, which also gives/renews your spiritual strength.
It is a clear sign that sets you apart from this material world. The Bible says that the Sabbath is a sign that identifies God's people, and that those who keep the Sabbath are His children. The Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between God and His people.
However, some Jewish leaders made many unnecessary rules about the Sabbath. They decided how far people could walk, what kind of knots they could tie, and so forth. When certain Jewish leaders criticized Jesus Christ for healing sick people on the Sabbath, Jesus reminded them that the Sabbath was made for the benefit of man.
Thus, do not be bound by man made customs or their unnecessary rules.
You do not need to stop doing everything on the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a day to keep holy. And "Keeping holy" means to set something aside or separate it for God. The Hebrew word qodesh is translated as "holy" and means to separate, set apart, or sanctify.
Therefore God's people are said to be sanctified because they are set apart for God's special purposes in the world: “Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy; for I am the LORD your God.
Hence by partaking in the act of keeping the Sabbath, you are sanctifying the day and yourself,
which sets you apart from the world and consecrates your connection with God.
One of the best ways to keep the Sabbath day holy is to devote some time to worshipping God. During the other six days of the week, it's easy to get caught up in all of our responsibilities. On Saturday, Take some time to turn your thoughts and hearts to God.
